Keeping Arlo’s memory alive

Meet Jodie

Jodie started volunteering in the office in September helping in so many ways; preparing orders for the hospitals and direct requests from families, database updates, thanking and banking and collection tin management. There’s always lots to do in the office, especially when we receive a large delivery of outfits from Blue Light Babies.  Thanks to Jodie, all the outfits are organised and easy to find!

Jodie’s son Arlo was diagnosed with juvenile myelomonocytic leukaemia (JMML) in April 2020, a rare blood cancer. In February 2021, Arlo passed away, he was 2 years old.  Arlo received a Chemo Duck via the Play Team in hospital and named him ‘Ducky’, he went everywhere with him.

Jodie and her husband Paul created #ArlosArmy and with the support of their family and friends, they have raised over £10k for The Give A Duck Foundation in memory of Arlo. They have also volunteered at various charity events this year including the Leeds 10K and our first Charity Golf Day and they have big plans for 2022.
“I look forward to volunteering for Give A Duck each week, nothing is ever too much.
It brings me a lot of comfort. Knowing how much Arlo loved his ‘Ducky’, whilst putting a package together, I always hope it’ll bring a smile to another child’s face, as much as it did Arlo.  The outfits from Blue Light Babies are the cutest, such a wonderful personal touch!  I will do anything I can to support and be a part of this amazing charity, and to keep Arlo’s memory alive.” – Jodie, Arlo’s mum
Thank you Jodie for all your incredible support.
