As a dad, I’ve always felt it was my job to protect my family. But when my son, Harry, was diagnosed with leukaemia at seven, I felt utterly helpless. Trying to explain the procedures and treatments to him was heart-breaking; he was scared, upset, and anxious. That’s when we discovered Gabe’s Chemo Duck Program.
The Chemo Duck became a lifeline for our whole family. It helped Harry understand what was happening in a way he could cope with, and it gave us a tool to communicate with him about his treatment. Seeing Harry calmer made the whole process less stressful for Karen and me too.
Now, through Give A Duck, I want to help other families facing childhood cancer. By fundraising and distributing Chemo Ducks, we can provide NHS staff, play specialists, and parents with this invaluable tool – at no extra cost to the NHS. It’s a way to offer comfort, support, and hope during an incredibly difficult time.
