With all the love shown for our duck face masks, we thought it only right to introduce you to the lady behind the masks!

“Hi! I’m Louise, I’m originally from Cheshire but now live just north of York In a village called Sutton on the Forest. I’m married to Roger and have 2 children – Kelly and George.

I work in the Box Office at York Grand Opera House, but with the COVID-19 restrictions, we are closed for the near future. Hence I started my new business ‘Hand Crafted by Louise’. I have always enjoyed crafting and previously completed an upholstery and soft furnishings course. I also knit, crochet and cross stitch so thought this would be an ideal time to get back into some crafting and also learn some new skills in dressmaking. It began in March with a few masks I made for charity, and has since expanded to a range of products including laundry bags, makeup bags, pyjamas and memory bears. My son George was diagnosed with a brain tumour aged 9, so as a family we have been through the journey of radiotherapy and chemotherapy, and the difficulties it creates for the whole family. We’ve always supported the charities involved with childhood cancer so I’m delighted to be able to work with The Give A Duck Foundation. The work they do makes such a difference for children going through this difficult time.

We’re out the other side now with George recovered and just finished at university, but it means the world to me to combine my love of sewing with helping a charity that means so much. I am always looking to add new products to my repertoire so I may be inspired to create some new products for the future!

When the theatres open their doors again, I’ll hopefully be able to get my fix of my other favourite thing – musical theatre, but I’ll certainly be continuing sewing and crafting along side it for many years to come.”
